The History of Armytags
Armytags started on December 12, 2006, and was then known as Armytegn.dk. The company was founded by Ivan from Aulum, who ran it entirely by himself for the first 11 years. Ivan had previously been a soldier and couldn't understand why civilians couldn't buy dog tags/ID tags/cadaver plates in the same way as the military. He therefore decided to take matters into his own hands, bought an embossing machine and a large pile of dog tags – and got to work.
It turned out to be a very good decision. The assortment has since grown, and today Armytags sells dog tags far beyond Denmark's borders, including in Sweden, Norway, and the rest of Europe.
On January 1, 2017, Armytags.dk was acquired by Handelshuset Aulum, as Ivan wished to pursue other projects. Handelshuset Aulum took over the entire business, including the B2B part of Armytags, logomarketing.dk.
Since 2017, a lot has happened – more products, new categories, and a new embossing machine that can create tags with Æ, Ø, Å, Ö, and Ä, as well as the symbols ♥ and ✝.
What is an Armytag?
An Armytag – also known as a dog tag, ID tag, or cadaver plate – is the identification tag that soldiers worldwide wear around their necks. Traditionally, the name and personal identification number are embossed on the tag; American versions also include blood type. The tag is designed to be divisible into two: if a soldier falls in service, comrades take one half for identification, while the other remains with the fallen.
Today, Armytags are just as popular among civilians as among soldiers – as jewelry, for sports teams, as ID for children, or simply as a personal detail worn close to the body. With us, the letters are always raised (embossed), exactly like on a real military tag and on a credit card – the genuine method, in contrast to cheaper engraving, where the text is milled into the surface.
The History of Handelshuset Aulum
Handelshuset Aulum was founded in 1993 under the name B.K. Fiskegrej by Bjarne Kristensen, who started by making and selling fishing tackle from home. This developed into a physical store, and in 1998 the company moved to its current address, Jernbanegade 7 in Aulum – a former SPAR grocery store. In 2000, Bjarne discovered hardball/airsoft, which has since become the company's main area.
Bjarne sold Handelshuset Aulum to his grandson, Kenneth Storm Jessen, on January 1, 2017. Kenneth had already been involved with the company for many years and had risen through the ranks to store manager in 2016.
